The positions of the hands is otherwise called ”mudras”. They have had a very important role in the practice of yoga and people also know them under the name “the producers of joy.”
The practice is very successful because of the huge amount of nerve endings containing our fingers so when they’re pressed in a specific way, they help us to connect channels that allow energy circulating through the body.
You can do these anywhere and at any time. Only several minutes of your time will be enough and you’ll reach a state of absolute relaxation!
1. GYAN MUDRA FOR HEALING (MUDRA OF KNOWLEDGE) :
Sit in a lotus posture peacefully. Keep your hand on your knee then touch the thumb tip with your index finger tip. Keep the remaining three fingers free like straight or close.
This mudra will help you relax your mind, but also improve the ability to concentrate better.
Your brain power will be sharp and smart and it can even cure insomnia.
With regular practice, you’ll be relieved of stress relief and depression!
2. VAYU MUDRA (MUDRA OF AIR) :
Fold your index finger towards your palm. Press with the base of thumb. Keep the rest of the three fingers extended as much as possible.
This yoga mudra will help you eliminate the excess of gases from your body.
You’ll relieve many problems such as: constipation, cervical spondylitis, flatulence, arthritis etc.
3. PRITHVI MUDRA FOR HEALING (MUDRA OF EARTH):
Touch the tip of your ring finger with the tip of your thumb and then press the both fingers with each other while you keep the remaining fingers extended out.
This mudra gesture balances the Earth element in your body.
It improves your blood circulation, body weight, vitamin deficiency and digestive power.
4. AGNI MUDRA (MUDRA OF FIRE) :
This one is related to the Fire element in your body. Close the ring finger towards your palm and press the second phalanx with the thumb base. Keep the rest of the fingers extended out. Do it early in the morning on an empty stomach in order to get the best results. If you’re suffering from acidity, you shouldn’t do this mudra!
It will help you reduce fats, the levels of cholesterol in your body, improve your metabolism and boost the whole immune system.
5. JAL MUDRA (VARUNA MUDRA/ MUDRA OF WATER):
This is the basic yoga mudra. Just touch the little fingertip with the tip of your thumb and don’t press the fingers! Then keep the rest of the fingers straight. The preferable position is to sit cross-legged.
It improves your blood circulation and reduces different types of body pain.
It helps in bringing back taste sensations and helps in reducing mouth dryness.
6. SHUNYA MUDRA (MUDRA OF EMPTINESS):
The first phalanx of your middle finger should be pressed with the thumb base.
It is helpful in ENT (ear, nose, tongue) problems, vertigo and motion sickness.
7. PRANA HEALING (MUDRA OF LIFE ):
Bend your little finger and ring finger. Then, touch these two fingertips to the tip of your thumb.
You’ll feel much more energetic and you’ll boost the body’s immunity, but you’ll also prevent fatigue.
You’ll also manage to cure all the problems with your eyes!
