Most people are arguing about the next part of the equation, or whether we should even start with the top at all. This is the latest riddle/brain teaser to be making its way around the internet. Are you one of those types of people searching for that kind of challenge? Then this is the article for you.

If we simply go from left to right, we would add 1 to 11, which is 12. 12 plus 1 is 13. But if we multiply 13 by 0, wouldn’t we just get 0 plus 1 on the bottom? Sorry folks, this can’t be correct.

Take a look for yourself and see if you can get the answer. Just remember you can’t solve this simply by running left-to-right – you’ve got to use the order of operations known as PEMDAS (parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction).

First try to solve it on your own, and below you have the correct answer so you can check whether you were right.

30 is the correct answer.

To arrive at this solution, you’ve got to use PEMDAS, which means you’ll do the multiplication first. The equation would be:

1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 11 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 11 + (1 x 0) + 1

= 29 + 0 + 1

= 30

YES. 30 is the correct answer.
